For providing human-friendly ceiling

Being deeply concerned about the ceiling fall accidents in the indoor sports facilities and frequent occurrences of big earthquakes in recent years, MSAJ set up the “Membrane Ceiling Research Group” (Chair: Professor Kenichi Kawaguchi, the University of Tokyo) in 2006, and has been carrying out the research on safe construction of membrane ceilings since then, reviewing the conventional ceilings, researching the cases of disaster-affected large spaces such as gymnasiums, and collecting the membrane ceiling installation examples. The results of such researches are summarized in the “Membrane Ceiling Engineering Guideline”.
Since large spaces like gymnasiums may be used as evacuation sites, high level of safety is required for such facilities. The membrane ceiling is an approach to provide ceiling that are highly safe and secure from the perspective of protecting human life. By using lightweight and flexible membrane materials, membrane ceilings minimize the risk of ceiling fall accidents and, by any chance such accident occurs, minimize the risk of injuring people.
Another advantage of employing the membrane ceiling is the richness of design and the feeling of security like being enveloped in a warm hug, which are brought about by the use of membrane structures.
MSAJ will continue to help creating safer, securer, and more beautiful indoor spaces by accumulating know-hows in each member companies and providing information on the membrane ceilings to the building designers, public organizations, and school officials in all corners of the country.
